It used to be that you had to go to a photo studio to get a great quality image. But today, everyone is walking round with amazing cameras in their pockets – so is there still a point to going to a photo studio?
Welcome to Brading images. We are a Photography and Videography studio in Manchester, Salford, Irlam. We primarily do music videos and family photoshoots in the studio. We particularly enjoying doing: Newborn photoshoots, one year old photoshoots, toddler photoshoots, kids photoshoots, fairy photoshoots, mother daughter photoshoots, maternity photoshoots and siblings photoshoots, here, in manchester!
Outside the studio, we run a kids club called The Stage and Screen Academy, so we have lots of experience with kids!
The Technology
iPhones are rapidly catching up to the performance of high-end digital cameras. Features like portrait mode and photo filters allow anyone to create some great images. However, you have to be careful when using filters and sometimes they can ruin your image.
At our photo studio in Irlam, Manchester we use professional cameras, lenses and lighting. These allow our photographers to get amazing quality images without relying on the same digital tricks that smartphones use. This results in a much higher quality end product, especially if you are wanting to print the images on a wall canvas.
Our photographers also use professional image editing software to hand craft the images to perfection. These provide a lot more options to adjust the image than a simple filter. They can retouch any blemishes in the image without the image looking fake.
Getting good lighting at home can be very difficult because your ceiling lights are not ideal for photography. Because they are above your head, they produce unflattering shadows and harsh lighting. They’re also often too dark to get a good image.
The lights in our studio are designed to produce soft, flattering light and our photographers will move and adjust these lights so they will produce beautiful images.
The Photographer
Have you ever tried to take a picture in a restaurant and found that no matter what you did, it just didn’t look good? Or have you taken a photo of a beach at sunset and found it looks stunning. The same camera can produce both images, so why are there such mixed results?
The answer is that getting a great image is about so much more than just having a good camera. The lighting and framing are the two most essential parts of an image – and a good photographer knows how to combine these to make great images – regardless of which camera they are using.
Our photographers have years of experience and so are able to get a great photo every time. When combined with the tools we have available in our studio – we have the perfect recipe for an image which will last a lifetime.

Have you ever tried to get a babies to look at the camera when you are taking a photo? It’s very difficult, especially if you’re taking a selfie. Our professional photographers know how to work with children and adults alike in order to get them looking into the camera and smiling. They will use all sort of methods to capture the shot at the right time.
Speaking of selfies, it’s often hard to get everyone in the frame looking good, with good lighting. You will often find that afterwards the image looks blurry. This is motion blur caused by holding the phone with your hand. Photographers avoid this by placing the camera on a tripod or by taking advantage of the brighter lighting in the photo studio to reduce the cameras shutter speed – which will reduce the amount of motion blur.
The Studio
One of the most overlooked aspects of taking good photos is: what’s in the background. Often a potentially great image might be ruined by having something distracting or ugly in the background.
At our photo studio in Manchester, we have a range of backgrounds, props and accessories which can bring the images to life. We have simple black and white backgrounds for a simple, classy look as well as themed backgrounds such as rainbow-coloured clouds, snowy forests, flowers and more. We have special flooring to go with some of the backgrounds, including snow and grass.
We can also add additional effects while editing the images, to make them even more special.
The Experience
Taking a family photo on your own at home can be stressful and frustrating. Trying to tidy the house to look good, making sure everyone is sat in the right places, trying to prop your phone up and having to run into the image when the timer is going. And after all that work, you end up with an image that looks good – but not great.
Coming to our photo studio in Manchester is a fun, exciting, bonding experience for the whole family. And since you don’t have to take the image yourself, you can just relax and enjoy yourself while our professional photographers do all the hard work.
